Constructing a Good Cover Letter

The cover letter is an adjunct to the resume and introduces you to the prospective employer. So,

• Be brief
• Be positive
• Highlight your credentials, your accomplishments and/or your management philosophy.

Remember that on the first pass through a group of applicants' materials, the reviewer is looking to reduce the pile to a manageable size. Hence he/she will probably not be reading cover letters.

In fact, some people never read cover letters. So be sure everything the reviewer needs to know about you is in your resume.
